Micah 4:3

He will judge between many peoples and will settle disputes for strong nations far and wide. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.

Last November I went to Iraq to partner with the reformed churches in the country. I had the privilege of sitting in people’s homes and listening to their stories. One family had a 14-year-old son who shared an interesting fact with us, Iraq had been at war his entire life. It was shocking, he has never known real freedom. He has always lived with a foreign force occupying his country. How would he respond to hearing this passage? Could he picture a world with peace, could he even imagine a world with peace?

God’s peace will reign eternal! In fact, God’s peace is so amazing that not only will there no longer be war, but there will be no need for weapons. There will be a time when people don’t engage in war. We won’t have to use our money to build our military. We won’t have to use our young men and women as soldiers. We won’t have to fear the pain and suffering that war causes. Young men and women who have known nothing but war, will know nothing but peace. We will have peace forever!
