Advent Devotion 12.12.19

Matthew 14:27
‘Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.’

Many of us are scared of a few different things. Some of the things we are scared of are rational, I am really afraid of snakes. Some of our fears are irrational, I am seriously afraid I am going to drive away from the gas pump with the nozzle still in the car. Fear has a way of stopping us in our tracks, keeping us from doing what God has called us to do. Fear is one of the biggest distractors in our life.
In our passage the disciples are scared because they see a man walking on the water in the night. They are terrified and scream that it is a ghost. However, Jesus tells them to not be afraid. What we can learn from this story is very important. Jesus doesn’t promise us there will not be storms and fear in our lives. He promises us that we don’t have to sit in fear alone in our trouble, Jesus will be with us. Amen.
