Angel Tree Gifts 2020

Angel Tree Gifts: This year Christmas will be much different for many of us. One thing that does not change is the need for families to provide warm outerwear to fend off the cold of winter. This year we will be collecting NEW coats/jackets, hats, gloves/mittens, and scarves to distribute to Duquesne residents.
The gifts will be collected November 22, 29, and December 6. They will be distributed by
members of The First Presbyterian Church of Duquesne at the Duquesne Family Center. Gifts may be brought to worship, dropped off at the church (depending on schedule), or I will be happy to pick up from your home. ALL GIFTS MUST BE NEW, WITH TAGS ATTACHED, IF POSSIBLE. Please do not wrap them. If you have questions or would like to schedule a pick-up, please email or call Cheryl Davies – or 412.901.8939.
Thank you for being a special angel this year.

Worship in the Parking Lot

Please join us for Worship in the parking lot this Sunday at 10:00 AM
We will set up the “chancel” on the sidewalk between the parking lot and the main entrance. The “sanctuary” will be the parking lot. There will be speakers that will amplify our sound into the parking lot. We will be asking that each car park with one space between each other car. People can stay in their cars or bring chairs and set them up in front of their car. There will be NO TOUCHING! Though we will be outside, masks are encouraged and remember, NO TOUCHING!
We will also have a Facebook Live online service at 10:00 AM for those who can’t or don’t want to attend service in the parking lot.
Join us for Worship this Sunday!

Christmas Carol Celebration 2020

On Sunday, December 6, at 4:30 in the church parking lot we will celebrate Advent by joining together to sing our favorite Christmas carols. We will have games for kids and adults, storytelling, and hot chocolate. There will be firepits to keep us warm. Choir members will lead us in song with accompaniments provided by Joe Pelan on his accordion, Chris Todd on his guitar and Elisabeth on the piano.
Bring your own snacks and drinks (if you want something other than hot chocolate). Bring your own marshmallows to roast and sticks to hold them. Bring your own chairs and be sure to wear your masks. We need more portable firepits. Please bring one if you are able. Come and join in the fun!

Christmas Pageant 2020

Christmas Pageant 2020: Calling all youth singers, actors (readers) and musicians!!! Please join us for our virtual Christmas Pageant. This year, to keep everyone safe and healthy, we are going to have to do things a little differently. We will need singers to pre-record songs and readers to tell the Christmas story. We will film the kids doing their parts and then put together a video to share with the congregation on December 20th. Everything will be done in the sanctuary!
Please contact Heidi Todd to express your interest and to sign up for a time to record. We can give you song choices and readings at that time. The dates for the recordings will take place December 5th and December 12th from 9:00-12:00.

The Four Ghosts of Christmas – Advent Sermon Series

The Four Ghosts of Christmas Advent Sermon Series – Have you ever wondered how many versions of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol there are. Someone actually counted! 135! My favorite is the Muppet Christmas Carol which has the scariest Ghost of Christmas Future. But there is only one original. Written in 1843, it describes the interactions between Ebenezer Scrooge and four ghosts. The first is Marley, Scrooge’s “dead as a doornail” former business partner. Marley is followed by, in order, the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present and Future. Each of Scrooge’s encounters leaves him a bit changed and enlightened. Scrooge’s journey with the ghosts is worth our time to see if there are some Biblical lessons to be learned for us this Advent. So, come and join Pastor Matt and Pastor Jeff preach on “The Four Ghosts of A Christmas Carol” starting on November 29, the First Sunday of Advent.

Reopening the Sanctuary for Worship

Session has approved the reopening of the sanctuary for worship, once set up is complete, under the following circumstances:
Using as the source for COVID-19 data and analysis, reopening the sanctuary for worship will be permitted if the Infection Rate is 1.0 or below in Allegheny and Washington counties. This means that there will be a “moderate risk” of infection for those who attend with social distancing in place and masks worn.
Because the infection rate might change from time to time, a decision will be made each week as to whether there will be worship in the sanctuary that Sunday. If there is no sanctuary worship that Sunday, there will still be online worship. Continuing the parking lot service as a “second” service after the sanctuary is reopened is being discussed by the church staff.
The following measures will be followed in sanctuary worship:
