Duquesne Kids Club and Partnership

Partnership with First Presbyterian Church of Duquesne

An especially meaningful outreach of JMPC is the partnership with First Presbyterian Church of Duquesne.

Rev Judi Slater is the faithful pastor at First Presbyterian Church.

Members of the two congregations meet together throughout the year for worship and joint ministry.

Duquesne is an urban community in Pittsburgh. Years ago this community was thriving, back when the steel mills were operating in Pittsburgh. Since the early 1980’s when the mills began to close, the community of Duquesne began to fall on hard times. The economy is now depressed and the area is one of the poorest neighborhoods in Pennsylvania. The church has served as a beacon of hope and light to the good people of Duquesne. The church offers weekly services along with community outreach ministries. The parishioner has enriched both the John McMillan Presbyterian and First Presbyterian Church of Duquesne congregations.

Duquesne Kids Club

duquesne-kids-clubKids Club is an adventure where members of JMPC travel to Duquesne, usually on Monday evenings, for youth  group gatherings with the younger kids of Duquesne. The evening sessions involve a Bible lesson, dinner and a fun recreation time. This program has been especially important to the Duquesne church as the community is struggling and the children do not have many after school opportunities.

When the team from John McMillan Church arrives, they provide a lesson along with hands on activities and a complete dinner for the children.

Students in 9th grade and above are invited to participate in this ministry. In addition, we welcome those who wish to volunteer to provide dinners.

If you are interested in helping with or learning more about this outreach please contact  Matt Fricker (matt@johnmcmillanpc.org) or Barb Clark at 412-833-4657.

Wednesday Nights

The youth group (students 7-12) meet on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 – 7:00pm. Join us to explore our faith, play exciting games, and enjoy dinner with friends. You are welcome to bring friends!

  • All youth in grades 7 – 12 are invited.
  • Bring $ 3.00 for dinner.

Questions, call the church at 412-833-4704, Matt Fricker 412-498-6761

Confirmation Classes

Confirmation is a time for young people ( 8th and 9th grade and above) to explore their faith in God move deeply or  to begin to take on Christian faith for themselves–a time to learn what it means to be a member of a church. It is a time for questions, exploring, listening for God, and a time for growing as disciples of Jesus Christ. Plus, it’s a time for friendship and fun as we journey together.

  • The group meets on Sunday from 9:30-10:30 am.
  • If you have a student who would like to explore their faith deeper please contact Matt Fricker.

The sessions are taught by Director of Discipleship Matt Fricker. During our time together, the class explores the Trinity, Gratitude and Grace, Prayer, Mission and what it means to be a church and more. The class traveles to Duquesne Presbyterian Church to share in worship and a fun afternoon with their youth group.

We thank God for these young people and their families as they embrace their journey of faith.
